ACT, PSAT, and SAT Test Prep — Portland & Seattle
Why Prep for the SAT, PSAT, or ACT
Standardized tests like the PSAT, SAT, and ACT favor those who have prepared, but not every student preps and learns the same way. While taking practice test after practice test works for some students, it’s not the right strategy for all.
At Emergent Education, we understand that every student is unique and requires an individualized learning plan. Our tutors help students prepare for the PSAT, SAT, or ACT beyond rote memorization and provide them with the study skills and test-taking strategies they need to be successful in college and beyond.
Unlock Financial Aid and Scholarships
High scores can open doors to merit-based aid from colleges and private scholarships, making a college education more affordable.
Build Skills and Confidence
Our tutors teach test-taking strategies and time-management techniques to help students approach every question with clarity and ease. Students gain confidence, reduce anxiety, and feel prepared for test day.
Stand Out in College Admissions
While some schools are test-optional, many still consider strong SAT or ACT scores an important factor in admissions. High scores demonstrate academic readiness and can set your student apart from the competition.
Our Approach to Preparing for the ACT/SAT
While the goal is to get the best test score possible, standardized tests are only one assessment tool admissions officers look at — and they can’t possibly tell the whole story of a student’s abilities and potential. Emergent Education’s philosophy is that the PSAT, ACT, and SAT are an opportunity for growth.
We take a growth-mindset approach and use proven strategies that help students reach their academic potential. Our tutors prep students for every area of the test, helping them master the material and developing skills they’ll use long after test day is over.

Frequently Asked Questions About ACT/SAT/PSAT Tutoring
What happens in a test prep tutoring session?
Test prep involves weekly 90-minute tutoring sessions and 2 to 4 hours of self-directed practice between each session. We start with a full practice test to set a baseline score and identify target areas for improvement. From there, we focus on a combination of content review, timed practice, and strategization.
When should my student take their ACT/SAT/PSAT?
Every high school junior should take the PSAT in October. With or without test prep, it’s great practice and helps set a baseline score. From there, students should consider SAT or ACT testing in the spring of their junior year and/or fall of their senior year. For either test, there are seven dates to choose from, and we always recommend taking it more than once.
Want help deciding which test dates make the most sense for your student? Schedule a free phone consultation, and we’ll help craft a timeline.
How long before taking the exam should my student begin tutoring?
We recommend scheduling two test dates, spaced a month or two apart, with test prep beginning at least 12 weeks before the final test date. This timeline is as condensed as possible without cutting any corners, ensuring your student walks into test day feeling as prepared as possible.
Is hiring an ACT/SAT/PSAT tutor worth it?
Cultivating a strong GPA takes years of consistent effort. Whereas earning a great score on the SAT or ACT can happen in a matter of months. That’s why personalized test prep tutoring is one of the single most valuable investments you can make in your student’s education.
Do you offer virtual test preparation services?
Yes! We offer virtual PSAT, SAT, and ACT test preparation. In fact, with the Digital SAT now fully computer-based, we think virtual test prep works even better than meeting in person when it comes to preparing students for the realities of test day.
How much do you charge for ACT, PSAT, and SAT test preparation?
Online test preparation for the PSAT, SAT, or ACT is $120 an hour. At-home or in-person is $150 an hour. Learn more about our prices and recommended test prep schedule.Accordion Content
