Meet Carl
Carl majored in International Relations with a minor in Spanish and Hispanic Studies at Hobart College in Upstate New York. While in college, he tutored math at the Boys and Girls Club and competed on the Men’s Varsity Soccer team, garnering league honors his Junior and Senior year. He gained additional tutoring experience teaching English during his summer internship in Saint Marc, Haiti and during his semester abroad in San Joaquín de Flores, Costa Rica.
After earning his degree, Carl worked as a Direct Support Professional, supporting young adults with disabilities to develop independent living skills in the home and the community. He went on to serve in the Peace Corps Dominican Republic as a Spanish Literacy Promoter, living and working on the Haitian-Dominican border. His primary project focused on tutoring programs for Haitian immigrants in the primary school he partnered with in Nuevo Boca de Cachón.
Upon return, Carl moved to Boston where he was a youth soccer coach and teaching assistant for students with disabilities. He explored methods to best support nonverbal students and their academic goals. “What I enjoy most about teaching are the connections I make with my students. The better I get to know my students, the more effectively I can support them and offer an experience that is positive and fulfilling for everyone.”
