Supporting Students
Meet Emma
Emma began her teaching career in middle school, where she developed her love for mathematics acting as a tutor for her brother and friends of the family. The subject became a source of therapy and connection for her. “I was going through a rough period in middle school, and Algebra became my place of belonging. In math, there was always an answer, a single solution without question, and I think that provided me comfort and a sense of control, especially when I was the one finding that solution”.
She continued her private practice well into high school, volunteering and working with the company Mathnasium. Upon transitioning to her undergraduate career at the University of California, San Diego for Education Sciences, she explored different avenues of student assistance, becoming an academic advisor for those within her college as well as a collegiate prep tutor under the company Near Peer Mentors. As she built up her repertoire of student engagement, affairs, and overall support mediums, she continued her private practice as a math tutor. Upon graduating in 2021, she continued remote work during COVID-19 supporting students from her hometown. Even so, she desired to strengthen her skills and understanding of learning, so she continued her education at the University of Washington for her Master of Education, graduating in June of 2024. “I hope to utilize my privilege of educational access to make education a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive space for all students. I hope to give them what education and learning gave me”
