Meet Gilly
Gilly has been teaching since first grade, when she lined up her dolls to teach them what she’d learned in school that day. After a brief detour into law, she returned to her true passion: teaching middle school. “There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a student’s eyes light up when they suddenly grasp something that once felt impossible.” Around the same time, she began tutoring college students for the LSAT and discovered the joys of one-on-one teaching.
Since 2007, Gilly has worked with students of all ages—from kindergarten through adulthood—on everything from test prep to organizational skills. With science-loving students who struggle to write, she co-creates magazines on topics they’re passionate about, using the feature article format to help them engage an imagined reader. For math-anxious students, she weaves concepts into stories that make abstract ideas feel relevant and social. “When I observe a student closely—how they think, where their understanding breaks down, even how they move their eyes across a text—I can push them further. Not just to master the material, but to understand themselves as learners.”
Outside of tutoring, Gilly is a voracious reader of literature, history, biology, and just about everything else. She finds inspiration in museums, galleries, and the natural world—and her delight in learning is contagious.
