Meet Katie
When Katie earned her MFA in Painting in 2003, she never expected her path would lead to teaching high school English. But after moving West in 2005, she found herself drawn not just to creating art but also to storytelling and language. Having worked as a tutor and as a basketball and track coach, she knew she loved working with students—so she followed that passion into the classroom.
While Katie still maintains a professional studio, teaching is where her heart is. After earning her Master’s in Education, she spent 12 years at Lincoln High School teaching 9th and 10th grade English, ESL, and Leadership. She also served in a district-wide role as an Instructional Coach, helping educators develop best practices, engagement strategies, and rigorous curriculum.
Katie is proud of her diplomas, but even prouder of the impact she’s had on students. One former student wrote: “Thank you for creating the most engaging introduction to high school English a freshman could ask for. Your enthusiasm for Romeo and Juliet sparked my love of literature and set me up well for IB. You are by far the best teacher I’ve had in four years!”
Outside of teaching, Katie enjoys backpacking, playing guitar, singing, and snuggling her puppy, Basil.
