Meet Iain
Iain is an experienced reading and writing tutor who has taught students from grades 4–12 through college. His background includes developing curriculum for refugee students in Charleston, teaching in Oregon public schools, and leading creative writing and composition courses at Oregon State University. He also brings unique teaching experiences from his time instructing fly-fishing in Montana, helping students build confidence through hands-on learning.
Iain has extensive experience supporting learners with IEPs, 504 plans, ADHD, autism, and anxiety/depression, and he’s committed to meeting each student where they are. His teaching emphasizes decency, inclusivity, and equity, with the belief that reading and literature can help students better understand themselves and the world around them.
As a writing tutor, reading tutor, and academic coach, Iain focuses on building strong relationships with students. He helps them develop clear thinking, stronger communication skills, and a deeper sense of personal agency. “Education shouldn’t just prepare students for employment—it should help them explore big questions about who they are and what it means to be alive.”
In addition to teaching, Iain is also a fiction writer, which enriches his ability to support students in creative expression and academic writing.
