Neurodiverse Tutoring – Portland & Seattle
While the term “neurodiverse” is closely associated with the autism spectrum, the key part of the word is “diverse.” In a sense, neurodiverse describes the different ways people process information. There’s no one “right” way for a human brain to work. We each have different strengths and struggles in processing information, and no matter how your brain works, a tutor can help you discover and embrace your strengths.
What Are the Benefits of Tutoring for Neurodiverse Students?
No two brains are the same. They develop differently for many reasons, and these differences help explain why no two people process information the same way. It also helps explain why some neurodiverse or neurodivergent children don’t do well in traditional classroom settings. Someone who struggles due to ADHD or executive dysfunction can grasp the concepts but needs more support to learn the material—and may not have access to those resources at school.
Hiring a tutor can provide a neurodiverse learner with that extra support and give them the skills and strategies they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond.
Goes at Their Pace
Traditional classroom settings teach at a pace that works for most students. But that pace may be too fast or too slow for neurodiverse learners. A tutor can change their pace to meet your student wherever they are and spend as much time as necessary to ensure they understand the concepts.
Matches Their Learning Style
Neurodiverse students may have a different learning style than their peers. They may need more visual or auditory materials, something a teacher may not be able to provide. A tutor can adjust their sessions to give your student the support and materials they need so they don’t fall behind.
Improves Self-Esteem
A neurodivergent student’s challenges in the classroom can hurt their self-esteem. They may wonder why they don’t understand the coursework, which could make them feel they aren’t as smart as other students. Working with a tutor can instill the confidence your child needs to succeed. They’ll learn they are smart in their own way and that they learn differently from their peers.

Our Approach to Tutoring Neurodiverse Students
Our tutors know that no two students learn the same way, and that’s especially true with neurodiverse students. Using a growth mindset approach, we teach students that they can master anything with enough practice. Instead of looking at what your student isn’t doing, we’ll look at what they can do and create an individualized learning plan that meets a neurodiverse student’s unique needs, builds on their strengths, and supports their learning gaps.
