IB & AP Tutoring - Portland & Seattle
Doing well on IB and AP tests can give your student a leg up in the college admission process, not to mention earning their degree. However, AP and IB tests are unlike other high school exams and standardized tests. Emergent Education’s personalized approach to AP and IB tutoring will build the confidence your student needs to ace any AP or IB tests they take.
What Are the Benefits of IB & AP Test Prep?
Most schools require at least a 3 on an AP exam for college credit, though many insist on a 4 or even 5 to get full credit. While your target school may accept IB scores, many only take HL credit, and you still need a 4 or better.
Preparing for an AP or IB test with a knowledgeable tutor does more than help your student achieve a high score. Our tutors will teach students the strategies they need to prepare for and take multiple exams in a week (or day!) and ensure they have the time-management skills to get through every question on the exams.

Frequently Asked Questions About IB & AP Tutoring
Will passing an AP or IB exam guarantee I get college credit?
IB and AP exams don’t have a true “passing” grade. They’re graded on a scale (1-5 for AP exams and 1-7 for IB exams). Schools are free to set their credit acceptance policy for each exam, so what may be accepted at one school may not be accepted at another. We start with a full practice test to set a baseline score and identify target areas for improvement. From there, we focus on a combination of content review, timed practice, and strategy building
How much do you charge for IB or AP tutoring?
Prices vary based on where you meet and your tutor’s experience level. For example, a senior tutor charges $85 an hour for a virtual session, while an in-person session with an associate tutor is $95 an hour. Learn more about our pricing.
How often should my student meet with their tutor?
We typically recommend one hour of tutoring per week for each IB or AP subject. However, you and your tutor will discuss your needs and create a tutoring plan that best supports your academic goals and needs.
When should I start IB and AP tutoring?
The sooner, the better. Establishing a connection with a tutor early in the semester ensures you understand the material throughout the course and are well prepared come test day.
