We are a locally rooted PNW tutoring company that values consistency, empathy, and excellent teaching. Our tutors become trusted partners for families, often working with students over months or years as they navigate changing coursework, academic goals, and personal challenges.
- $35 - 65 Per Hour Based on Experience

Schedule and Hours
We work around your life while ensuring our students always have reliable support.
Variable Hours
Typically 5–20 hours per week, depending on student demand and your availability.
You Control Your Schedule
Tutors set their own availability; we match you with students whose needs align with your open hours.
Weekday Afternoons & Weekends Preferred
Peak demand runs weekday afternoons (3–8 PM) and weekend mornings/afternoons. Availability during these windows is strongly preferred.
Hours May Fluctuate
Expect some reduction in hours during school breaks and holiday periods, with demand picking back up at the start of each semester.

Tutor Qualifications:
Associate Tutor:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant teaching or tutoring experience.
- Strong command of the subjects you wish to tutor.
- Based in Portland, with reliable transportation and ability to meet students in-person in the Portland area.
- Professional, punctual, and communicative, as students and families count on you.
Experience supporting neurodivergent students and learning differences are preferred.
Prior experience working with K-12 students preferred (volunteering, mentoring, or formal tutoring).
Senior Tutor:
- Advanced degree required (e.g. MA, MS, M.Ed., MAT, or PhD)
- Minimum 5 years of relevant teaching or tutoring experience.
- State teaching certification preferred (any U.S. state).
- Based in Portland, with reliable transportation and ability to meet students in-person in the Portland area.
- Professional, punctual, and communicative, as students and families count on you.
Experience supporting neurodivergent students and students with learning differences is preferred.
Prior experience working with K-12 students preferred (volunteering, mentoring, or formal tutoring).
What You’ll Do – Responsibilities:
Deliver Personalized Tutoring Sessions:
Provide one-on-one academic support tailored to each student's goals, learning style, and current level. Sessions may be conducted in-person at the student's home or a public location, or online via video call.
Communicate with families and the Emergent team:
Keep parents informed of student progress through brief session summaries, and respond promptly to scheduling or content questions from our coordination staff.
Maintain Professionalism and Reliability:
Honor your scheduled sessions, provide advance notice for any changes, and represent Emergent Education’s tutoring values of integrity, warmth, and academic excellence in every interaction.
