About Emergent Education
Emergent Education is a Pacific Northwest tutoring company specializing in:
- K–12 subject tutoring
- Academic coaching & executive functioning support
- Homeschool support
- SAT / ACT test prep
- College admissions counseling
We are currently hiring Seattle-area tutors with availability for in-person tutoring throughout the greater Seattle metro area. While we also offer online tutoring, our greatest need is for tutors interested in building consistent in-person relationships with students and families.
We are a small organization that strives to build strong long-term relationships with students and families. Many of our students work with the same tutor for years, and many new students come through direct referrals. We place a strong emphasis on thoughtful tutor matching, individualized support, and teaching the whole student — going beyond subject matter and addressing broader challenges like confidence, executive functioning, motivation, organization, and self-advocacy.
With that in mind, we especially value tutors who:
- Bring warmth, empathy, and flexibility to their work
- Are comfortable supporting multiple subjects or age groups
- Are familiar with growth mindset and executive functioning support
- Enjoy relationship-based long-term tutoring
- Have experience supporting neurodivergent learners
Tutor Experience & Support
We strive to create a tutoring environment that is supportive, organized, and sustainable for tutors.
We provide:
- Thoughtful tutor-student matching
- Flexible scheduling and scheduling autonomy
- Responsive communication and organizational support
- Long-term recurring students
- Professional autonomy without micromanagement
We intentionally minimize unnecessary administrative work so tutors can focus on building strong relationships with students and families rather than completing extensive unpaid reporting.
Scheduling & Hours
Tutors control their own schedules and typically work between 5–20 hours per week, though hours can fluctuate seasonally and it can take time to build toward a steady recurring caseload.
Tutors with weekday afterschool availability (roughly 3–8pm) and willingness to travel within Seattle neighborhoods generally build hours more quickly.
Subjects & Specialties
We are particularly interested in tutors with experience in:
- Math (Elementary through Calculus)
- Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
- Reading & Writing
- Academic Coaching & Executive Functioning
- Homeschool Support
- IB / AP Coursework
- SAT / ACT / PSAT Prep
- College Admissions Counseling
Experience supporting students with ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Anxiety, Executive Dysfunction, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, and Gifted Learning Profiles is highly valued.
Applications are accepted and and reviewed on a rolling basis. Must have in-person availability. Please submit a resume and cover letter using the application form below.
