Meet Amy
Amy has spent more than 35 years in education, teaching mathematics and serving as an advisor, coach, and administrator in a wide range of secondary schools. She earned both her undergraduate degree in science (with a concentration in mathematics) and her master’s in teaching mathematics from the University of New Hampshire. After finishing her degree, Amy began her career teaching math at a boarding school, later moving on to schools in New York City and California. Over the years, she has taught everything from Algebra I to Linear Algebra and Multivariable Calculus.
Amy moved to Portland in 2019 and began tutoring during the pandemic, helping students stay engaged and confident through the challenges of remote learning. That experience rekindled her love of mathematics—and of helping students discover the beauty and logic within it. She believes that every student’s path to understanding is unique and finds great satisfaction in guiding them to those moments of clarity and confidence.
When she’s not tutoring, Amy volunteers with several local nonprofits and enjoys hiking, camping, traveling, and spending time with her family and her dog, Reggie.
