Meet Mary

Mary is a lifelong problem-solver and creative thinker with a passion for making math accessible and engaging for students of all ages. With over eight years of tutoring and mentorship experience, plus a background in nonprofit leadership and program design, she brings both depth and creativity to her work.

As the Founder and Director of Math in Color, Mary designed and led workshops that emphasized visual understanding, problem-solving skills, and confidence-building for girls in elementary and middle school—helping to bridge the gender gap in math. She has also worked one-on-one as a private tutor, supporting students in strengthening foundational skills, preparing for exams, and developing a growth mindset. “I want students to understand not just how to solve a problem, but why it matters and how they can use it beyond the classroom.”

Mary’s teaching style is flexible and responsive, offering patient, step-by-step guidance that adapts to a range of learning styles. She believes effective tutoring is about more than correct answers; it’s about equipping students with tools to think critically, approach challenges with confidence, and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways. “I love showing students that math isn’t just numbers, it’s a way of thinking about patterns, logic, and the world around us.”

Known for her organization, clear communication, and collaborative approach, Mary fosters a supportive learning environment that empowers students to grow both academically and personally.
