Elementary Math Tutoring – Portland & Seattle

Elementary school math lays the foundation for academic success in math and science classes, not to mention overall academic success. However, not every student masters math concepts at the same pace, and the elementary school classroom isn’t the right learning environment for every student. Emergent Education’s tutors understand how critical a solid footing in math is and will help your student master the basics and feel confident in their abilities.

What Are the Benefits of Elementary Math Tutoring?

Study after study has demonstrated that an early mastery of math plays a crucial role in future academic success. A student’s performance in kindergarten math predicts how they perform in fifth-grade math, and reading and math skills in preschool can predict a student’s math achievement through middle school and into high school.

Developing your child’s math skills now improves their academic performance throughout their life.

Build a Strong Foundation

Getting the basics down ensures your student understands more advanced math. Tutoring can help your student with addition and subtraction so they can move up to fractions and decimals, which gives them a solid foundation for future math topics, like finding the area of a rectangle.

Improve Confidence

It’s no secret that not every student (or adult!) likes math, and some people struggle with it. Our tutors understand this challenge and will ensure your student understands their elementary school math so they can feel confident in their math literacy in future science and math classes.

Develop a Growth Mindset

When math isn’t your strong suit, a student may say the material is too hard and feel that they aren’t smart enough to get it. Our tutors take a growth mindset approach to tutoring, helping your student improve their problem-solving skills and teaching them that they can develop their skills in anything and solve any math problem they encounter.

Our Elementary Math Tutoring Approach

Not every elementary school student has the same learning style, and teachers can’t adjust their lesson plans to accommodate everyone. A tutor can create a personalized learning plan that helps students develop critical math literacy skills and fills in the knowledge gaps that sometimes happen in a classroom setting. We’ll work with your student to discover which skills they’re missing, build on their strengths, and help them feel confident inside and outside the classroom.

FAQs – Elementary Math Tutoring

Multiple studies have shown that a student’s ability in elementary school math is one of the best predictors of their academic performance through high school. Building a solid foundation in math now can ensure your student performs at or above grade level across all subjects for as long as they go to school.

While most tutoring sessions are an hour, younger students may only be able to focus for 30-minute long sessions. You and the tutor will work together to determine the optimal session length so your student learns the material without losing interest.

Both! Our tutors can meet with your student for online math tutoring or are happy to meet in person in the Portland and Seattle area. We’ll meet at your home or a public location like the public library.

Pricing is per hour and varies based on where the tutoring takes place and which tutor you work with. For example, one hour online with a senior tutor is $85 an hour, while in-person tutoring is $115 an hour. Learn more about our pricing.

It depends on your child’s individual needs and schedule. Most students benefit from meeting with their tutor once or twice a week, but we can adjust the plan to ensure it fits your family’s routine and goals.
