Meet Ben
Ben has always been curious about how the world works, and his natural enthusiasm for sharing ideas made teaching a natural path. For the past 17 years, he has taught middle school in both Portland and rural Oregon, covering math, science, language arts, and social studies. This breadth of experience has allowed him to work with a wide range of students and develop strategies—academic, organizational, and interpersonal—that help learners build confidence and succeed.
At the heart of Ben’s teaching philosophy is relationship. He believes learning requires stepping into the unfamiliar, a process that can feel uncomfortable or even discouraging. By creating a safe, supportive environment rooted in conversation and mutual trust, Ben helps students take those risks and discover the joy of growth.
Outside the classroom, Ben is an avid gardener, sports enthusiast, and baker. He especially enjoys time with his family, often exploring the Oregon Coast together.
