Meet Claire
Claire specializes in reading, writing, and verbal test preparation, bringing more than five years of tutoring experience and a warm, encouraging approach to her work. She holds a B.A. in English with a minor in Communication Arts from George Fox University, where she also served as a writing consultant, helping fellow students strengthen their arguments, organize their ideas, and refine their writing.
Since 2021, Claire has worked with K–12 students at Huntington Learning Center, providing both in-person and online instruction. Her experience also includes reading intervention through Portland nonprofit organizations and writing support for students through the graduate level. With a background in journalism and a keen eye for detail, she helps students develop reading comprehension, literary analysis, grammar, and essay-writing skills. She also prepares students for the verbal sections of the PSAT, SAT, ACT, and HSPT.
Claire is especially skilled at explaining complex ideas in clear, manageable steps and creating an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions. She has supported students with ADHD, anxiety, dyslexia, and dysgraphia, adapting her instruction and study strategies to their individual strengths and challenges. Colleagues describe her as consistently patient, perceptive, and kind, with an ability to offer direct guidance while helping students recognize their own capabilities. She brings that same care to communicating with families and advocating for the support students need.
Raised in the Pacific Northwest by a family of social workers and educators, Claire values curiosity, empathy, and connection. Outside of tutoring, she enjoys playing violin, reading historical fiction, cooking pasta, and spending time with her two cats.
