Meet Eric
Eric has worked in education formally and informally for over a decade. His career experience includes managing an internship program for young human rights advocates, leading backcountry youth crews in leadership development and stewardship projects, and facilitating an emerging environmental leaders program. “Whether inside or outside the classroom, fostering a sense of awe, curiosity, and possibility in young people has easily been the most fulfilling aspect of my career.”
Most recently, Eric taught at Sage International School, a top-rated public charter school that offers the International Baccalaureate curriculum. At Sage, Eric designed and taught high school courses in Spanish, Design Thinking, Speech & Debate, Government, and other areas. “Design thinking helps students in all subjects, and in life: it’s about creatively solving problems, no matter what kind, step by step.” Eric led the school’s year-long personal project, ran the environmental club, and was honored to receive Sage’s Teacher of the Year award three times.
For Eric, building relationships with students comes first. “Education isn’t about just memorizing facts, but instead is a process through which students come to better know themselves and identify goals that are personally meaningful.” Eric’s approach works to identify students’ strengths, determine areas of growth, and connect with their prior knowledge, personal interests, and inherent curiosity in the world around them. In short, he knows how to make learning exciting, and how to make it matter. Eric speaks Spanish and has experience working with students IEPs, 504 plans, ADHD, autism, and depression/anxiety.
