Meet Ty

Ty is a dedicated lifelong learner and educator with over a decade of tutoring experience across a wide range of subjects and grade levels. Their teaching journey began more than ten years ago with a desire to help others navigate the same academic challenges they once faced. Since then, they have worked with students from elementary school through graduate programs in subjects including math, biology, chemistry, physics, and standardized test prep.

Motivated by a love of teaching and the life sciences, Ty earned a B.S. in Secondary Education and Molecular and Cellular Biology from Vanderbilt University, followed by a Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the University of Washington, where they used computational modeling to study how cells make proteins. Their post-doctoral research at the Benaroya Research Institute explored bioinformatics and immunology. This diverse academic background gives Ty both deep subject expertise and the ability to break down complex topics into clear, accessible steps.

As a licensed secondary biology teacher, Ty brings professionalism, patience, and adaptability to every session. They tailor their methods to each student’s strengths, goals, and learning style, creating an environment where students can thrive. “I see tutoring as a way to build both understanding and confidence—helping students realize they’re more capable than they think.”
