Supporting Students

Meet Ona

Ona has over a decade of experience working as an educator and tutor. She got started as a peer tutor in math throughout middle and high school and went on to tutor for the SAT for about 5 years. From there, she worked at an alternative high school to support students studying for their GEDs before earning her certification as an ESL teacher and leading classrooms in Spain. She is currently pursuing a Master’s in Secondary Education to become a high school chemistry teacher. “All of my experiences as an educator thus far have only affirmed my passion for teaching.”

By creating the space for experimentation and self discovery, she works with students to uncover new strengths and grow as learners. She is passionate about supporting students at all skill levels and enjoys thinking creatively to best meet each student’s needs and learning styles. She has extensive experience working with students on high school level math and science content and prides herself in her ability to identify learning gaps and build foundational skills that support subject area expertise. She also finds that many students benefit from taking the time to work on time management, organizational, and study skills, which can create the space for them to excel across subject areas. “The tutoring process is like building a customized tool belt full of the tools that best support each student’s learning process.”
