Meet Zach
Zach has spent nine years working with students through soccer coaching, theater workshops, summer camps, and STEM mentorship. Across these experiences, he has found that mentor-student relationships help both the student and mentor grow in unique and valuable ways. During five summers with his hometown’s parks and recreation program, he progressed from camp counselor to assistant camp lead and served on the inclusion team, providing one-on-one support for campers with learning differences. These experiences helped him develop a patient, easygoing approach and an appreciation for adapting support to each student’s individual needs.
A recent University of Washington graduate with a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering, Zach is now pursuing his M.S. in the same department. As an undergraduate, he spent two years as a teaching assistant, helping students understand complex concepts, work through lab experiments, analyze data, and write reports. He has also mentored high school students through UW’s summer engineering camps and currently guides a high school student through a university research project.
Zach brings that same enthusiasm to tutoring, drawing on his experience explaining unfamiliar ideas and patiently guiding students as they put their understanding into practice. His engineering background provides a strong foundation in mathematics, chemistry, and physics, allowing him to support STEM students at both high school and college levels. As a 2021 National Merit Scholar who earned a 1520 on the SAT, he also brings firsthand experience with standardized testing and preparation.
