Norbert is a passionate lifelong learner who finds immense joy in teaching. His appreciation for mentoring began early in life. As a 6th grader, he was selected for a scholarship preparation program that provided him with crucial tutoring, enabling him to secure a scholarship for quality high school education. As a high school junior, Norbert returned as a volunteer tutor for that same program. This experience ignited his passion for teaching and mentoring, which he has continued to cultivate while advancing in his own journey.

As a tutor, Norbert emphasizes the same empathetic and adaptive approach that worked so well for him as a student. He has witnessed time and time again that both student and teacher evolve with each interaction. With that in mind, he embraces every opportunity to share in the learning. “True mastery comes when you are able to help others learn what you know.”

Norbert’s background in Neuroscience, Physics, and Python Web Development provides a breadth of knowledge to pull from, allowing him to support students across a wide range of subjects and grade levels. “There is no greater reward than witnessing that moment of clarity when a student finally grasps a challenging concept.” In his free time, he enjoys learning new things, reading non-fiction, playing video games, walking through nature, and relaxing with his loved ones.

  • Tutoring experience in math, science, and more with students in elementary school through college (2006 – Present)

Julia arrived in Seattle in 2023 from Belgium, where she completed her thesis on neurodivergent self-made cultures and graduated with her Master’s in Anthropology. Between graduating with a BA in English from UC Irvine in 2017 and going back to school in Belgium, she lived for four years in Chicago working in the local publishing and writing education scenes. Since 2023, she has worked as a Director of Online Programs in test prep, developing SAT, ACT, and PSAT curriculum.

She has been assisting students with reading, writing, and test prep for 9 years, specializing in working with neurodiverse students. Her methods are very collaborative: She helps ND students find a way into the material through their own unique motivations and passions and teaches students where they can accommodate themselves in order to achieve their goals. Her subject specialty is in reading comprehension and writing — she can assist with narrative, argument, or expository essay writing, research papers, application essays, and more! She is also an expert in the new Digital SAT, the new ACT, and AP Language and Literature.

She is a big reader, traveler, and a lifelong dancer. She’s the happiest reading a good book on a train or building Legos at home.

Qualifications:

  • 10 years of Reading and Writing tutoring; 8 years of SAT, ACT, and AP Lit/Lang test prep tutoring
  • BA in English from University of California, Irvine
  • MSc in Social and Cultural Anthropology (with an emphasis on neurodiversity and disability studies) from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven

Gianna is dedicated to helping young learners thrive. Growing up with two siblings on the autism spectrum inspired her to explore which strategies best support learning and development. That curiosity set her on a rewarding path of educational and clinical training, with a focus on youth facing academic and behavior challenges.

Her experiences have shown her how unique each learning journey is—which is why she has developed a compassionate, adaptable approach that centers every student’s strengths and goals. “I believe in every learner’s ability to succeed with the right tools and support.”

From designing educational interventions as an honors thesis student at Harvard to teaching in Spanish public schools as a Fulbright Scholar, Gianna has supported student growth with both dedication and care. Now pursuing a PhD in School Psychology at the University of Washington, she integrates research and practice into her tutoring.

Outside of academics, Gianna enjoys dance, live music, cooking, traveling, and spending time outdoors. She brings the same creativity and energy she finds in those pursuits into her work with youth: “Across every setting, the common thread I’ve discovered is that cultivating trust and engagement is the foundation for meaningful progress. It’s incredibly gratifying to see learners build confidence, celebrate their effort, and grow over time.”

Qualifications:

  • Tutoring and teaching experience with students from preschool through adults (2020–Present); Fulbright teaching fellowship in Spain (2023–2024).
  • Clinical experience implementing behavior therapy for children with autism and ADHD (2021–2024).
  • Fluent in Spanish, certified at the DELE C1 level (Instituto Cervantez, 2025).
  • B.A. cum laude in Psychology (Harvard University, 2023).
  • Ed.S. and Ph.D. in School Psychology (University of Washington, in progress).

Juliet recently relocated to Seattle after living in the United Kingdom and France for several years. As a student, she was fortunate to learn from inspiring educators who helped shape her curiosity and motivation to learn. “My amazing teachers have shown me just how important education is, and what a joy it can be when one really begins taking pleasure in learning.” This perspective has shaped her own teaching approach – calm, patient, and focused on making learning enjoyable. She adapts to different learning styles and encourages curiosity.

Juliet has tutored students of various ages and academic levels. She began in high school, helping peers with French and Spanish, and later mentored a student with learning difficulties through the French organization, Afev. She also worked for a company called Ringle, tutoring children and adults in English, and served as a teaching assistant at Columbia University, leading osteology labs, discussion sections and grading assignments and exams. Since then, she has continued tutoring through platforms like Varsity Tutors and Anacours, in addition to private sessions.

Outside of teaching, Juliet is passionate about paleoanthropology. She understands that students have interests and passions of their own and enjoys tailoring lessons to include student interests whenever possible, making learning more engaging and personal.

Qualifications:

  • Tutoring experience (online and in-person) in science, math, reading/writing, French, Spanish, English, SAT/ACT test preparation, college application planning/essay-writing, homework help (K-12)
  • Teaching assistant experience, Columbia University (Human Origins and Evolution)
  • MPhil in Human Evolutionary Studies (University of Cambridge, United-Kingdom)
  • BA in Evolutionary Biology (Columbia University, New York)
  • BA in Politics and Government (Sciences Po, Paris)

Noah has always been a curious learner. Growing up in Seattle’s public schools, he was the kindergartener disappointed to learn there was no homework and the second grader correcting a teacher on how to spell “giraffe.” That same enthusiasm carried him through a B.S. in Physics at the University of Washington and a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biophysics at the University of Denver, where he spent six years teaching physics, astronomy, and math to students from diverse backgrounds.

As a tutor, Noah emphasizes patience and empathy. He wants students to see difficult subjects not as barriers but as puzzles worth exploring. At the University of Denver, students consistently praised his calm, approachable teaching style and his ability to demystify complex concepts.

While STEM is his specialty, Noah believes in meeting students where they are. He looks for ways to connect science with a student’s passions—whether that’s history, language, or the arts—so learning feels both relevant and exciting.

Outside the classroom, Noah volunteers at Seattle food banks, plays card games, and is a familiar face in local book clubs, where he enjoys bringing unexpected titles to the table.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biophysics, University of Denver
  • B.S. in Physics with Math minor, University of Washington
  • Six years teaching STEM at the undergraduate and graduate level

Emily Church is an incoming medical student at the University of Washington School of Medicine and a neuroscience-trained researcher who helps students become efficient, confident learners.

She has tutored and coached students 1:1 since high school, supporting middle school through college learners across STEM, writing, and standardized tests. With years of tutoring and academic coaching experience, Emily teaches students how to handle high volumes of material without burning out—by using the same strategies she relies on in science and medicine: active recall, spaced repetition, and targeted practice. “Most students don’t need to work harder,” she tells students. “They need a plan that makes their effort count.”

Emily’s tutoring style is “diagnostic.” She listens for what’s actually getting in the way—missing foundations, a stubborn misconception, or the pressure of timed tests—then builds a clear, repeatable plan. Students learn to shift from passive rereading to high-yield habits like practice questions, active-recall flashcards, and spaced review, using mistakes as feedback rather than setbacks. “If you can retrieve it on demand,” Emily says, “you can use it on an exam—because that’s what exams are testing.” She also emphasizes sustainability and self-care so students can stay consistent: “My goal is for you to leave each session knowing exactly what to do next.”

A former NCAA varsity basketball player and team captain at Pomona College, Emily also supports student-athletes with time management and recruiting guidance—especially for high-academic programs (SCIAC, NESCAC, Patriot League, Ivy League).

Emily is experienced with neurodivergent learners (ADHD, anxiety, learning differences) and brings a calm, structured, strengths-based style to every session.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5+ years of 1:1 tutoring and academic coaching (grades 6–college), including grade improvement, confidence-building, and test prep (PSAT/SAT/ACT/MCAT); math through AP Calculus AB/BC; Honors/AP Biology, Chemistry, and Physics; college-level STEM (General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Neuroscience); writing and humanities
  • Education: M.D. student (University of Washington School of Medicine, 2026 matriculant); advanced neuroscience training (NIH PREP, University of Pennsylvania); B.A. Neuroscience, Pomona College
  • Credentials: Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Certified

Ever since her sophomore year of high school, tutoring has been a constant in Azalia’s life. She began by tutoring math at her own high school and quickly discovered a passion for helping others understand and enjoy the subject. In college, she took on her first formal tutoring role, working with students in elementary math and literature.

Now with over seven years of experience across a wide range of grade levels, Azalia’s commitment to supporting students in both their academics and overall school experience continues to grow. “I love when I see a student grasp a concept they’ve previously struggled with. The look on their face when the dots start connecting is amazing.”

Azalia currently teaches math and science at a K–12 school, working with students both below and above grade level. She supports learners from diverse backgrounds and with a variety of challenges, including ADHD, autism, and anxiety. Through this work, she has developed a flexible, student-centered approach: “I enjoy explaining the same concept in different ways to meet each student’s learning needs.”

Qualifications:

  • Over 7 years of K-12 tutoring experience with an emphasis on math and science
  • B.S. in Data Science from Arizona State University
  • Currently pursuing a master’s degree in education (teaching math and science)

Caleb believes that language is at the center of all learning. Helping students find their voice—whether through reading, writing, or problem solving—is one of her greatest passions. As Caleb puts it, “Math is a language whose vocabulary and grammar are not always taught explicitly. Learning to translate it gives students real freedom as learners.”

Caleb most recently taught Preschool and Kindergarten in the public school system, but her teaching journey began in high school when she helped teach programming fundamentals to 3rd–5th graders in her school’s computer lab. She continued teaching throughout college, working with gifted middle and high school students in a variety of educational summer programs.

Caleb graduated from Swarthmore College with a B.A. in Linguistics and a minor in Education. She holds teaching certifications in Elementary Education and ESL. Her background across age groups reflects her belief that meaningful learning happens when students are able to connect with ideas in ways that make sense to them.

Qualifications:

  • 2 years of public school teaching; 4 years of gifted program instruction; 2 years of tutoring
  • B.A. in Linguistics from Swarthmore College
  • PreK-4th grade Teaching Certification (PA)
  • ESL Teaching Certification (PA)
